DAKINE

Dakine’s origin story starts in 1979 with Rob Kaplin making high-quality surf leashes on the north shore of Maui. In the early eighties, DAKINE began to make a shift towards manufacturing windsurfing equipment which eventually evolved into making gear for the emerging kite industry as well. This new shift came with a move to the Columbia River Gorge, a mecca for not only wind and kite surfing, but also snowboarding on Mount Hood. Dakine is now known as a global action sport brand that has also expanded into skateboarding and mountain biking.

I had the privilege to work in-house at DAKINE when it’s headquarters were located in Hood River, Oregon.
